Remembering Anita G Patton

Anita Gray Patton was and will always be a legendary icon in the disability community

throughout Louisiana and surrounding states. In 1999 Anita was in a automobile accident that left her paralyzed from waist down. Despite having a disability she lived a prominent and overall successful life. In 2012 she learned about The Ms.Wheelchair America Competition and realized the state of Louisiana was not a participating state. After contacting the programs coordinator she was able to be assigned Louisiana’s state coordinator position and served as Ms Wheelchair Louisiana 2013. Anita was featured in a article from the West Side Journal that said ”I am proud to have brought such a well-respected, positive and forward thinking program for women with mobility impairment into the state of Louisiana.”

There is no place in Louisiana you wouldn’t find Anita when it was in reference to disability. From monthly spinal cord Injury meetings to serving on the board for disabilities she was always ready to serve and was a force to be reckoned with. As one of my mentors and dear friend she was always one call away. Our prayers and sincere condolences go out to her husband Shawn, parents, family and friends. She will be greatly missed, We Love You Anita

In Loving Memory
